General information about South Thearos

The south of Thearos sits to the west of the Wilderness and the Divide Mountains, where the landscape is characterised by vast fields and rolling forested hills. The residents of south Thearos are under near constant threat due to their proximity to the dangerous Wilderness and untamed magical forest of Acria, so beast attacks are quite frequent by the borders.

Most local government matters are handled by the minor lord presiding over the area while there is a major lord who handles broader matters of state and represents South Thearos on the council of lords. Any of the minor lords could one day become the major lord so there is quite a bit of pressure on the presiding major lord to maintain a strong political position. The major lord resides in the region's fortress capital, one of the remnants of the golden empire that The South Thearosians have maintained and expanded to the best of their abilities. This capital sits at the heart of the old trade routes that made the region so rich in ages past.

Culture of South Thearos

Thearos’ history of being surrounded on almost all sides by hostile entities has led to the military being a significant part of south Thearosian culture and fighting abilities becoming essential to most south Thearosians. That being said, the clothing, armour and architectural styles of the region are characterised by utilitarian features blended with elegant flourishes. Decorated and well maintained armour, as well as weapons, are a common sight amongst residents who can afford it and are seen as indicators of the owner's battle prowess.

All kinds of people have made their homes in this region, though humans make up the majority of the population. South Thearos is welcoming to anyone who wishes to take up residence there but the minor lords are slow to trust newcomers with official positions within the local governments and law enforcement due to their precarious position and proximity to historically hostile foreign powers.
